Ladies, if you’re feeling smug and all loved up this Valentine’s Day why not trying making these for the man in your life…after all, they do say that they way to his heart (and I can certainly vouch for this) is through his stomach. Even if you’re not, these are sure to make the most sickeningly romantic day of the year taste a little sweeter.
Here’s how: (makes about 12 large heart cookies)
- 150g salted butter , softened
- 80g light brown muscovado sugar
- 80g granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 225g plain flour
- ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- pinch of salt
- 200g plain chocolate chips or chunks
Preheat the oven to 190C (170C fan) and line two baking trays with baking paper. Mix the butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and creamy. Beat in vanilla and egg and sieve in flour, soda and salt. Add in choc chips stir well.
Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and flatten out a piece of dough. Cut about 12 heart shaped cookies making sure they are about 1 cm thick each. Place them well apart on the baking tray and bake for about 10 minutes until golden brown. They are spread out quite a lot so make sure they are well spaced.
You want them to be hard on the outside and slightly soft in the centre. Best served fresh from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce or with some milk.
‘Roses are red, violets are blue, here are some Choc Chip Cookies I baked just for you!’. Happy Valentine’s Day!
